Mentor Profile

RYAN BEHM

Improvement Advisor

Ryan is an Improvement Advisor with UW Health and works with the Organizational Improvement team to coach staff members through process improvement initiatives. He is the official mentor for the QSI student lab at UW-Madison and supports students through their process analysis and implementation of quality and performance improvement projects.

Prior to his time with UW Health, Ryan attended UW-Madison and completed his BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering, as well as his MS in Human Factors and Health Systems Engineering. Early in his academic career, he spent time learning process improvement methodologies in manufacturing, distribution, and consulting. Additionally, he worked as an intern in the QSI Student lab on projects regarding medication administration, pediatric to adult transition of care, surgical staffing, and surgical equipment organization.

This early exposure to process improvement in a healthcare setting was an invaluable experience to apply systems thinking and ignite a passion for how industrial engineering could be used to improve the lives of others. Much of his work surrounds the rollout of a new lean management system, The UW Health Way, at the organization. He is excited to see how the organization transforms to incorporate respect for people, real-time management, and continuous improvement into the way staff, physicians, and patients interact.

Outside of his time with UW Health, Ryan enjoys going to concerts, running along lakeshore path, water skiing, and eating cheese curds at the Great Dane.
